WHAT CAN I EAT? — When the Food System Makes You Sick

There comes a moment when confusion turns into clarity — and clarity turns into a wake‑up call. That moment came for me when I realized I was standing in a grocery store surrounded by products that my body simply could not tolerate anymore.

I wasn’t imagining it. I wasn’t being dramatic. My body was speaking loudly.

And I finally listened.

1. When 95% of What’s in the Store Is Unsafe

Every aisle felt like a trap:

  • GMO ingredients hidden in almost every boxed food
  • Pesticides and herbicides sprayed on vegetables and fruits
  • Hormones and additives in meat and chicken
  • High fructose sugars in almost everything
  • Fish raised in tanks and fed chemical‑heavy feed
  • Produce washed in questionable water
  • Labels that hide more than they reveal

And don’t even get me started on the bread.

At one point I stood in my kitchen and thought: “What can I eat? What is left?”

2. When Your Body Starts Protesting

I grew up with Mediterranean food, Indonesian herbs, and European farming standards. My body knew real food. My body knew clean soil. My body knew balance.

But when I moved to the U.S., everything changed.

My symptoms were real:

  • Bloating
  • Gallbladder issues
  • Nausea and dizziness
  • Stomach aches and back pain
  • Inflammation and fatigue
  • Anxiety attacks
  • Headaches

At first, I blamed menopause. But deep down, I knew something else was happening.

My body was saying: “You lived your whole life eating natural food — and now you’re overloading me with chemicals, additives, and toxins I don’t recognize.”

3. When You Sometimes End Up Eating Baby Food Just to Survive

I reached a point where I couldn’t eat anything without feeling sick.

I even tried baby food — thinking it must be safer. But even there, I could taste the pesticides in some brands.

Only one brand worked for me: Once Upon a Farm. Imagine that — a grown woman eating baby food because it was the only thing that didn’t make her sick.

And then I looked around and saw children eating foods full of chemicals, dyes, artificial sugars… Parents had no idea. Elderly people adding artificial sweeteners to their coffee, thinking they were making a healthy choice.

It broke my heart.

4. The Bigger Picture: Soil, Seeds, and a System That Lost Its Way

Before I came to the U.S., I was already concerned about:

  • Climate change
  • Disconnected governments
  • Industrial systems prioritizing profit over people

But living here made it painfully clear:

Industrial agriculture is destroying the soil — and when the soil dies, everything else follows.

Healthy soil = healthy food Healthy food = healthy people Healthy people = healthy communities

This is not a small issue. This is the foundation of life.

But I’ll go deeper into that in my next post.

5. So… What CAN You Eat?

I reached a breaking point. I felt sick, confused, overwhelmed, scared and betrayed by a system that should protect people, not poison them.

But then I started rebuilding my diet from the ground up.

And I want to share the exact steps that changed everything for me — the steps that helped me feel human again.

That will be in my next post.

Because there is a way forward. There is a way to reclaim your health. There is a way to reconnect with real food, real soil, and real nourishment.

This is where my healing began.
